What is Open Floor?
Open Floor is a lively movement meditation practice that builds muscular and emotional intelligence. It is a dance floor discovery zone where we move and include: good days and tough ones, passion, hesitance, joy, sorrow, births, deaths and everything in between. There are no steps to learn and no way to do it wrong.
Research shows that people who dance grow more flexible, confident, capable of intimacy, and nimble in the face of change. When we move together, we grow communities that care for each other, both on and off the dance floor.
What Makes Open Floor Different?
Open Floor is a place where we integrate mindfulness with movement – it fuses these two to create a space where creativity, awareness and vital health meet! There are no steps to follow and you are supported through your dance with guided facilitation. We explore different themes stimulating an open mind, and an open heart, moving with and including all aspects of ourselves and our lives.
The Open Floor curriculum explores what we call the 4 x 4 weave. This includes our relationships with the world and how we embody them. The weave represents 4 relational hungers: the hunger for solitude, the hunger for connection, the hunger for belonging and the hunger for spirit along with the 4 ways we embody ourselves: physically, mindfully, emotionally and spiritually. In any given class or workshop we explore this rich tapestry of our humanness. This attention helps us move toward deeper integration with ourselves and the world around us. To help us along in this discovery we work with core movement resources. All this together reveals insight to inspire and support our lives on every level. In this way we move and include our experiences more fully.
